Inspiring the Next Generation: Navigating a Future in Shipping
1/30/2025

With great pleasure, we share a unique and inspiring moment that took place on Thursday, January 30th, when a dedicated team from the Tsakos Group and the Maria Tsakos Public Benefit Foundation organized an event for more than 350 students from schools in Lamia and Central Greece, connecting via live streaming with other schools across Fthiotida. The event was honored by the presence of Cpt. Panagiotis Tsakos.

The event aimed to introduce students to the world of shipping, emphasizing the crucial role of the Greek maritime industry in supporting Greece’s economy and global trade while also presenting the diverse career opportunities available to the new generation, with a particular focus on the seafaring profession.

During the event, students virtually travelled through the Straits of Magellan, observed live ship operations, and communicated directly with officers on board, who shared their personal experiences and reasons for choosing a maritime career. The initiative aimed to raise young people's awareness of the opportunities in the shipping industry and inspire a passion for marine and maritime professions.

We also had the opportunity to share with tutors and pupils our vision for fostering interest among young people in seafaring professions and maritime education through our investments in key educational initiatives, such as the establishment of Maria’s Home and the Tsakos Enhanced Education Nautical Studies (T.E.E.N.S.), delivered via our non-profit Model Nautical High School and the newly established Merchant Marine Academy on the island of Chios.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Secondary Education Directorate of Fthiotida for their initiative and exceptional organization, His Eminence Metropolitan Symeon of Fthiotida for graciously hosting the event and to Star Central Greece for their valuable support in bringing this event to life.
