Tsakos Enhanced Educational Nautical School (T.E.E.N.S.)
which launched in 2018 as Greece’s first private, nonprofit nautical school. Entirely funded by the “Maria Tsakos” Public Benefit Foundation, T.E.E.N.S. offers high-quality secondary education to students from across the country, instilling early on the values of seamanship, discipline, and academic excellence. Students are selected through a rigorous process and benefit from a unique curriculum that integrates advanced electronics, navigation, and onboard simulation. T.E.E.N.S. is the only model school of its kind in Greece to operate its own training vessel, the “Mania”, fully equipped with modern communication and automation systems aligned with IMO standards.

Tsakos Merchant Marine Academy
inaugurated in Chios in September 2024. Developed to build on the educational framework of T.E.E.N.S., the Academy is certified by the Deputy Ministry of Shipping of the Republic of Cyprus and offers comprehensive academic and technical curriculum for aspiring Masters, Engineers and Electrotechnical Officers. With state-of-the-art simulators, cutting-edge maritime technology, and an innovative curriculum, the Academy aims to bridge the growing global officer shortage while supporting the industry’s transition toward sustainability.

Tsakos fleet
where the theoretical foundations acquired are tested and refined in real-life scenarios. Under the supervision of experienced officers, cadets engage in a structured mentorship process that includes hands-on responsibilities, performance evaluations, and feedback loops to guide their development. This stage ensures that young officers are not only prepared for the technical challenges of shipboard life but also ready to embody the values of professionalism and leadership at sea.
To complete this full-circle approach to maritime training,
The Maria Tsakos Academy
serves as the final and most advanced pillar in the Group’s educational strategy. Located at the Group’s headquarters in Athens, with a certified training branch in Chios, the Academy delivers tailored, competency-based training for both sea-going and shore-based personnel. It is equipped with immersive simulators for bridge, engine, and dynamic positioning operations, enabling officers to practice high-stakes scenarios in a risk-free environment. The Academy also plays a critical role in preparing personnel for the industry’s future, offering advanced modules on decarbonisation, emerging fuels, evolving regulatory demands, and digital ship operations. Recognised as Training Center of the Year in 2017 by Lloyd’s List and as the only full-spectrum Dynamic Positioning (DP) training provider in Europe, the Academy exemplifies a commitment to continuous improvement and operational precision. The Group underscores the critical importance of upskilling our human capital with the necessary tailored training and expertise to navigate the transition towards decarbonisation. By staying at the forefront of industry advancements, the Academy ensures its trainees are adequately prepared to navigate the evolving demands of the maritime industry.
Together, these four stages constitute a comprehensive maritime education and training ecosystem—rooted in legacy, guided by visionary leadership, and driven by continuous innovation.
This holistic model ensures that every student embarking on the Tsakos journey is equipped to develop into a skilled, responsible, and forward-thinking maritime professional—fully prepared to serve the global shipping industry with excellence, integrity, and purpose.
